A perfect
spring night greeted fans and drivers for weekend number three of racing action
at Chateau
Raceway
in Lansing powered by Husqvarna. The car
count continued to grow as well with sixteen drivers making there first
appearances at the track this season and four of the six classes saw there
highest individual car counts as well.
With so
many new faces it only stood to reason that plenty of new faces could be
showing up in victory lane for the first time this season and by the end of the
night there were ten drivers who had that first checkered flag of the year,
just two of those however were first time visitors.
The
"Triple J Disposal Classic Dwarf Class" has been dominated so far
this season by Rick Utley of Byron. Utley picked up where he left off the first
two weeks of the season by taking the heat win and continuing to be the only
driver to see victory lane in the class. In the feature Dave Anderson of Lyle and John Griffen of Caledonia got away first and second, and
with Rick stuck back in traffic tried to break away. They had things there way
until Utley caught them about midrace. With Rick making his move for the lead
he caught a bit of the wall on the back straightaway and appeared to bend
something in the right rear as tire smoke could be seen coming off the car as
it came around to complete lap eight. It lasted just one more lap and he pulled
from the track leaving Anderson and Griffen to settle it. Dave seemed to be on
his way until a slight bobble in turn two on lap eleven took him up the track
and opened the door for Griffen on the bottom. John drove right through that open
door and went on to not only his first win of the year but his first career
Chateau Feature win.
The nights
race program, sponsored by Power 96, featured Stock Car rides for all the kids
at the beginning of the night. Chateau Raceway will continue its season long
kid’s promotions next week with a "Kids-R-Free" night. The track will
also bring out a couple of the "Box Cars" for the kids to see next
week. There Small Box shaped cars that the kids wear over there shoulders to
race in. Then after giving the kids a few weeks to make one of there own the
track will have "Kids Box-Car Races" on June 1st. Race time every
Friday Night for Chateau Raceway Thunder in the Dirt is 7:30.
